Miss Emily Reid Hicks and Mr. Stephen Perry Maggart were married at six o'clock in the evening on Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Reverend Timothy Jay Patterson officiated. Music was provided by Mr. Toney Yancey, organist, and Dr. Edward S. Bach, trumpeter. Miss Perry Christian Hicks, cousin of the bride, of Greensboro, North Carolina, served as Crucifer. A reception hosted by the bride's father at the Greensboro Country Club followed the ceremony. On Friday evening, the parents of the groom hosted a rehearsal dinner at Revolution Mill Studios.
The bride is the daughter of Richard Hilton Hicks, Jr. of Hillsborough, North Carolina, and the late Minna-Abbott ("Mabs") Smith Hicks. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Livingston Shattuck Salisbury Smith of Charlottesville, Virginia, and the late Mr. Smith, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hilton Hicks of Greensboro. The bride is a graduate of Greensboro Day School and Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee. She was presented by the Debutante Club of Greensboro. The bride is a Regional Gift Officer for the Tulane Fund in the Office of Development of Tulane University. She is a candidate for a Master's degree in Education in the Higher Education Program at Vanderbilt University's Peabody College of Education and Human Development.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Clair Maggart of Nashville, Tennessee. He is the grandson of Mrs. Fred Lee Maggart and the late Mr. Maggart, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Perry Huffman Johnson, all of Lebanon, Tennessee. The groom is a graduate of Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville. He received his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University and his Master's degree from the Vanderbilt University School of Engineering. The groom is associated with the investment management firm of Wiley Bros.- Aintree Capital in Nashville, Tennessee.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride was attended by Mrs. Kristin O'Neil Kristof of Nashville, Tennessee, as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Mary Lyons Mitchell of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Miss Sarah Lawrence Mitchell of Washington, District of Columbia, both cousins of the bride. Members of the bridal party were Miss Bettie Parsons Barger and Miss Blaire Simpson McMeans, both of Nashville, Tennessee; Mrs. Elizabeth Baird Hamblin and Mrs. Sarah Moreland Sherman, both of Boston, Massachusetts; Miss Marianne Seabrooke Huger and Mrs. Jessica Jean Hurst, both of Washington, District of Columbia; Mrs. Mary Thompson Rising of Atlanta, Georgia; and Mrs. Kathryn Long Stevenson of Charleston, South Carolina. The flower girl was Miss Palmer Dixon Maggart, niece of the groom, of Tampa, Florida. Mr. Carter Livingston Smith of Faber, Virginia, uncle of the bride, was the reader. Greeters were Mrs. Sarah Beidler Moats of Nashville, Tennessee, and Mrs. Wesley Crowe Stanley of Key West, Florida. Miss Haynes Cowan Hicks, cousin of the bride, of Greensboro, North Carolina, served as the guest book attendant.
The groom's father served as best man. Groomsmen were Mr. John Bradley Maggart of St. Petersburg, Russia, and Mr. William Ellis Maggart of Tampa, Florida, both brothers of the groom. Ushers were Mr. Jared Bradley Averbuch and Mr. Paul Porter McDonald, Jr., both of Atlanta, Georgia; Mr. Joseph Michael Crane, Jr. of Nashville, Tennessee; Mr. Thomas Manning Hancock and Mr. James Martial Lapeyre, III, both of New Orleans, Louisiana; and Mr. Dominick Randolph Smith of Charleston, South Carolina.
Following a wedding trip to Greece, the couple will reside in Nashville.
