HIGH POINT - A woman escaped out a window of a home on fire in High Point this morning.
The woman, whose identity was not immediately available, was taken to High Point Regional Hospital for treatment.
Her condition was unavailable Friday evening.
The fire caused severe damage to the front of the home at 1100 Jefferson St., which is at the corner of Jefferson and Lake Avenue.
Firefighters were called to the home shortly after 8 a.m., and the home was engulfed in flames when they arrived.
The fire started in the living room of the residence, but the exact cause remained under investigation as of Friday evening, said Capt. Denita Lynch of the High Point Fire Department.
Authorities said the woman was asleep when the fire began before waking up and getting out of the house.
Lynch said the home did not have smoke detectors and that Red Cross is assisting the woman.
She said the home was left uninhabitable and it is unclear whether it was insured.
