Governor's office issues $5K reward in Greensboro homicide
Gov. Mike Easley's office today announced it's offering a $5,000 reward for information regarding a Greensboro man who was shot at his home at 4332-D Edith Lane on March 13.
At 11:52 p.m., Boyd Phillip McKinney III, 31, was home with two of his roommates when there was an altercation outside his second-floor residence, according to Greensboro police.
Police had been unable to determine whether the altercation was an argument or struggle, although McKinney was able to get inside the residence and shut the door.
The gunman shot through the door. McKinney was taken to Moses Cone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Family members said McKinney had moved to Greensboro 11 years ago to start a new life after a rough upbringing in South Carolina.
In addition to the Easley's reward, Crime Stoppers will pay up to $2,000 for information leading to the arrest or indictment of those responsible, making a total reward of up to $7,000 possible.
People with information are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 373-1000.
