Police: 2 die from carbon monoxide poisoning
GREENSBORO — Two people whose bodies were found inside a house on Saturday died of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning, police said today.
The bodies of Monique Latrice Carpenter, 27, and Darryl Tyrone Gregory, 33, were found in the home at 2205 E. Florida St. shortly after noon Saturday.
Police and fire investigators spent Monday afternoon at the home trying to determine what killed the two. Police said Tuesday afternoon they did not know where the carbon monoxide release came from.
Carpenter and Gregory were reported missing to Winston-Salem police last week.
Gregory was reported missing from his home at 2709 Teresa Ave., Winston-Salem, on Friday about 10:30 p.m. Carpenter was reported missing from her home at 1100 Progressive Lane, Winston-Salem, about 9:20 Saturday morning, according to incident reports on file with the Winston-Salem Police Department .
At 12:05 p.m. Saturday, a man called 911 to report that someone was dead inside his rental property. Guilford Metro 911 does not identify 911 callers.
“I’m just a property owner and these people say their family member, the tenant, has been missing and they went in the house,” the man said. “I think they found somebody in here dead. I’m not sure.”
Greensboro police did not release the name of the home’s tenant, citing the ongoing investigation.
Neighbors said they had no indication of anything happening in the house until they saw police and emergency medical workers there on Saturday.
