Finding special handmade crafts in Rockingham

Thursday, November 13, 2008

I’ve been hunting across town for a special Christmas ornament to send to my daughter and son-in-law in Japan. It’s their first Christmas as husband and wife, and away from home.

Well, I was very disturbed to learn that every ornament I picked up had the words “Made in China.” So, I’m going out this weekend to open houses and fall bazaars in hopes of finding a special ornament made by a local craftsman.

In Eden on Saturday, First United Methodist Church and Spray United Methodist Church will both host their annual bazaars, which will include homemade crafts, baked goods, a white-elephant sale, lots of food and so much more.

On Sunday, the Corner Junction Christmas Shop and Riverhouse Gift and Gourmet in Eden will hold their open houses to help you find that one-of-a-kind gift. And in Reidsville, the Downtown Crafter’s Mall will hold its annual Christmas Open House, which offers shoppers handmade and hand-painted items created by local artists and craftsmen.
